Welcome
Welcome to the home of the Dallas Highland Dancers! The DHD strive to share our passion by educating others in traditional
Scottish Highland dancing. Our studios offer an outstanding learning environment where instructors, dancers and their families can focus
on learning and perfecting dance technique. In addition, the DHD take pride in celebrating Scottish culture. With these
goals in mind, the members of the DHD enjoy dance education while building lasting friendships that continue long after the bagpipes
fall silent. All are welcome in the DHD dance family, regardless of age, sex, nationality, color, creed, or experience. With the DHD,
you belong!
Founded in 1992 by Fiona Robertson Alpaugh, the Dallas Highland Dancers have a long history of providing excellent
instruction in Highland dancing. Our dancers range from four years of age to adult and from beginner to advanced levels. The DHD perform
in approximately 20 shows per year and dancers of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in these exciting performances
at local and regional festivals, parties, parades, and demonstrations. Highland dancing offers students a unique opportunity to explore
the traditions and heritage of Scotland, as well as to gain coordination, grace and self-discipline. It provides both a structured
and creative outlet for dancers of all ages.
The Dallas Highland Dancers are currently accepting new students at both
the Mesquite and Farmers Branch locations. Classes are available for all ages and levels of ability and experience. The DHD welcomes
both male and female dancers in all classes. Potential students are encouraged to attend a complimentary class to learn more
about Highland dancing and to determine if Highland dancing is a good fit for them. No registration is required, however, we
do ask that you set up an appointment with Fiona (
dancingkilts@hotmail.com) for classes in Mesquite or Emily (emilydmurer@gmail.com)
for classes in Farmers Branch. Both facilities require that all participating dancers complete a liability waive prior to the start
of class. Dancers taking class in Mesquite should arrive a few minutes early to complete this waiver. Dancers taking class in Farmers
Branch can download this waiver (http://www.ci.farmers-branch.tx.us/sites/default/files/Liability%20Waiver_3.pdf) and bring it to
class with them. Please visit our "Classes" page for more information on courses currently offered.
For 2011, the Dallas
Highland Dancers are pleased to announce the formation of a competition group, for dancers who are interested in taking their dancing
beyond a recreational level and challenging themselves in local, regional and national competitions. We invite you to explore our
web site and to contact us for additional information or to sign up for classes at dancingkilts@hotmail.com.
